As Scotland prepares itself for Mother’s Day in lockdown on Sunday 14th March, some of the country’s leading independent and family-run restaurants have unveiled their special Mother’s Day menus for collection or home delivery

Contini in Edinburgh; McLarens on the Corner in Edinburgh; Mackays Hotel on the North Coast 500 in Wick; The Seafood Ristorante in St Andrews and Eusebi Deli in Glasgow have all launched mouth-watering ‘dine at home’ menus to help us celebrate our mums’ special day from the comfort of our own homes without the hassle of cooking or washing up. Many of these experiences are only available for local delivery, but The Seafood Ristorante offers a nation-wide service.

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for a gin-lover, opt for McQueen’s limited edition anniversary cherry blossom gin – packaged just as it was with ceramic bottle and gift box when McQueen launched in 2016.

Contini, Edinburgh

Mamma mia! Contini’s Italianstyle Mother’s Day sharing menu for three to four people, as well as a single menu per person is available for collection from Contini, 103 George Street in Edinburgh or home delivery on Sunday 14th March only.  

The sharing menu includes homemade focaccia with I’Ciacca Extra Virgin Olive Oil; a selection of all your Contini antipasto favourites, including Prosciutto di Parma DOP; mozzarella di bufala DOP, Italian roast vegetables, marinated olives and sun dried tomatoes and seasonal leaves; followed by roast rosemary, lemon and garlic cornfed Chicken with Carroll’s heritage rosemary roast potatoes and roasted Italian vegetables and Carina’s secret recipe sauce. For dessert, indulge in Contini’s very special strawberry pavlova.

McLarens Market Corner, Edinburgh

For people looking to treat their own mum to a special dining experience at home this Mother’s Day without having to cook or bake, McLarens on the Corner has launched its own Mother’s Day family feast priced at £30 per person with minimum order for two people.  

As part of the three-course meal, there is a choice of a seafood or veggie sharing platter, including chargrilled chilli squid; crevettes; salmon croquettes; smoked mackerel pâté with lobster aioli; red pepper hummus, smoked aubergine and spinach and feta samosas.  

A choice of centrepieces includes roast chicken & bacon potpie; beef pot roast;  spinach, roasted squash, mushroom and cheddar Wellington; as well as scrumptious sides. A choice of sharing desserts includes caramel cheesecake lollipops & bubble waffle sticks. There is also the option to add on extra child friendly meals.  

For that extra indulgence, McLarens on the Corner is also offering a unique Mother’s Day gift, including a miniature of Chambord, a Chambord glass, Chambord Macaroons, luxury Scottish Siabann hand cream and a bouquet of flowers from local florist, Quate & Co.

Mackays Hotel, Caithness

Whether it’s your mum, step-mum or nan, there’s a someone in your life who deserves to be celebrated on Sunday 14th March. The independent and family-run Mackays Hotel on the North Coast 500 in Wick has moved away from a traditional three-course meal and created a special afternoon tea with sweet and savoury treats. Priced at £12 per person, the afternoon tea includes finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, leek and cheddar tart, ham and tomato tart, layered lemon cake, chocolate mousse, scones, coconut date balls, shortbread and caramel filled doughnuts for collection and home delivery for people living in the Wick/Caithness area.

The Redshank, Inverness

Established by husband and wife, Jamie & Ann Marie Ross, in 2018, The Redshank is a mobile seafood catering trailer (food truck) based in the Highlands capital of Inverness on the North Coast 500, offering a ‘street food’ approach to freshly cooked, locally sourced seafood and produce. They open their hatch at various points around the capital, local towns and villages serving the local community all year round. Classic dishes include Cullen skink, Shetland scallops and Stornoway black pudding, Kedgeree, Ox cheek in local stout and Orkney crab meat  

Menu and locations vary on weekly basis. The Redshank doesn’t currently offer home deliveries, but you can find where we they be next, along with their latest menu by heading to their website and social channels.

Inverness Coffee Roasting, Inverness

Inverness Coffee Roasting are offering same day local deliveries around the Inverness area on the North Coast 500, including coffee beans, coffee-related gifts and loose leafed teas, for orders received before 3pm Monday to Friday.  

Taken over by Kevin and Heather Donnachie five years ago, the team of seven at Inverness Coffee Roasting Co. is passionate about all-things coffee, especially the craft of teasing out the best in every bean They carefully and ethically source green beans from the high lands of the world, skilfully roasting them in the Highlands of Scotland, show-casing the characteristics of each varietal.  

Prior to lockdown Inverness Coffee Roasting Co. provided a friendly stopping place for coffee lovers, and although the shop is temporarily closed, coffee lovers still have ready access to a full range of roasted coffee beans from around the world (whole or ground to the customers specification) and regular subscription options, through the easy-to-navigate website or by picking up the phone and chatting about your coffee needs.

The Seafood Ristorante, St Andrews

Anniversary Edition Gin by McQueen

The ‘original spirits mavericks’, McQueen Gin, based in Callander, Scotland, have released a limited-edition version of their Cherry Blossom Gin just in time for Mother’s Day. Dale and Vicky McQueen made the decision to launch the distillery in 2015 (whilst drinking gin, of course) aiming to create an adventurous and unique gin-drinking experience; unlike anything else on the market.

Glasgow’s iconic Deli and Restaurant, Eusebi, has Mother’s Day at home covered whether you have a mum who loves leisurely brunch or opts for an elegant afternoon tea. The award-winning, family-run team have created two ‘at home’ experiences with restaurant quality to make Mother’s Day truly special. 

Priced at £25 per person, the five-plate brunch menu is a winner for spending time together at home or makes a great gift if you can’t be there in person. It requires minimal heating and comes with handcrafted chocolates as an additional surprise gift. Start with lobster crumpet with avocado puree, followed by garden globe artichoke salad, baked scallop thermidor, burrata, blood orange and honey blossom salad and wild berry panna cotta to finish.  

Created exclusively by the Eusebi pastry team, the spring afternoon tea for two is perfect for some at home indulgence. Priced at £35 for two, enjoy freshly made caprese brioche with tomato and pesto, arancini cacio pepe and asparagus and pea tart for savouries, followed by blackberry and mascarpone choux, scones with jam and clotted cream, earl grey raspberry tea cake, pistachio and olive oil cake and a delicate lemon mousse genoise. Teapigs Earl Grey teabags are included, and vegetarian options are available for both the brunch and afternoon tea experiences.
