Welcome to readers of The Highlander and Scottish Life

Welcome readers old and new

We want to take this opportunity to warmly welcome the readers of The Highlander and Scottish Life, as well as Scotland Magazine, following the merger of these three fine magazines into a single, stronger title – Scotland.

Each issue of Scotland that follows will contain the very best features and writers from your previous magazine, and we will continue to showcase all that makes us so proud of our Scottish heritage. We’ll bring you the best quality writing on Scottish history, ancestry, traditions and travel, all illustrated with inspirational photography.

Ancestry

Here on our website you can find all this and more. For starters, we’ve put together a mini digital magazine to help you trace your ancestry, which can be downloaded for free here.

Clans

On our clans page you will find profiles from many of Scotland’s mightiest families, from the MacDougalls to the Campbells, including details of their tartan and clan crest. Discovery awaits here.

Secret histories

At Scotland, we love a secret history. Some of our most recent features in the magazine will give you a flavour of what’s to come as a new reader of our magazine and website. Try the lesser-known story of prohibition in Wick or read about Edward VII’s scandalous holiday at Balmoral.

Heritage

We regularly cover Scotland’s finest stately homes and castles. You can take a virtual tour of Inveraray Castle, home to the 6th Duke of Argyll, here, or Dunrobin Castle near Golspie, here.

Travel

And in every issue, as well as on our website, we want to give you some very good excuses to come back and visit our beloved nation. Whether it’s a round-up of the best, most atmospheric castles you can stay in, or some travel tips provided by famous Scots themselves, such as motor racing legend Jackie Stewart, you’ll find inspiration and practical instruction enough to help you plan your next Scottish holiday.

So, welcome. Have an explore of our website, check out the new and previous issue and enjoy! We always love hearing from our readers, and you can get in touch at editor@scotlandmag.com if you have any thoughts, ideas or Scottish memories that you’d like to share with us.
