One of Scotland’s most unique restaurants with rooms, the award-winning Mingary Castle, is perched on a picturesque promontory on the fringes of the west coast of Scotland in the Ardnamurchan Estate. With its dramatic exterior and windswept location, Mingary offers a truly one-of-a-kind luxurious experience within a fortress steeped in Scottish history.
The 13th-century castle, which overlooks the Sound of Mull and once controlled entrance to Loch Sunart, has a story that includes Vikings, sieges, assassinations, and royalty.
In 2016 it was restored to its former glory and in 2021 its drawbridge dropped, and the castle reopened as a stunning restaurant with rooms. The castle boasts majestic 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean and peninsula from its original medieval battlements, four beautifully designed suites, and an intimate dining room.
In 2022, its restaurant was awarded five gold stars by the AA. The two AA Rosette restaurant is overseen by chef patron, Colin Nicholson. It serves a six-course tasting menu in the intimate 20-cover dining room and the daily changing menu showcases the best produce that the west coast of Scotland has to offer, leading to it recently winning ‘Best Newcomer’ at The Scottish Excellence Awards.
