Scottish Luxury par for the course

BRIGID JAMES REVELS IN THE LUXURY OF THE FIVE-STAR OLD
COURSE HOTEL IN THE HOME OF GOLF, ST ANDREWS

The Old Course Hotel, built in 1968, enjoys a prime location just a few minutes’ walk from the small historic, academic and golfing city of St Andrews, with superb views across the famous Old Course golf course to the sandy bay and sea. The overall impression is one of sweeping vistas, fresh sea air and changing light.

The city of St Andrews has a history as an important centre of religion and learning, reflected in its attractive architecture, including the university buildings and ruins of the 12th-century cathedral and 13th-century castle. These days, the city has a royal inhabitant, with Prince William studying at the university. It is also, perhaps most famously, known as the ‘home of golf’, boasting world-famous courses and the British Golf Museum.

The Old Course Hotel has a total of 134 luxurious bedrooms, and the suites in the Millennium wing, built to celebrate the 2000 golf open, are as spacious and comfortable as private flats.

A Fairway suite in the new wing features a generous lounge complete with sofa, chairs, coffee table and dining table, plus a television and video player, with a small kitchen off to one side. The bedrooms are equally well decked-out, with stereo and television, and an ensuite bathroom in stylish black and white. Perhaps best of all, the suites have french windows and balconies, as do all rooms on the top two floors of the new wing. Rooms on the rear side of the hotel have stunning views across the Old Course to the blue sea and sky beyond.....
