National Museums Scotland 2010 History’s at the heart of 2010 with an exciting line up of new exhibitions at Scotland’s five National Museums. The Lewis Chessmen, the 200th anniversary of the completion of the Bell Rock Lighthouse and the women of the Land Army are just a few of the highlights of National Museums Scotland’s 2010 exhibition programme. See www.nms.ac.uk for more details Open returns to St Andrews Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th July 2010 The Open Championship will return to St Andrews in 2010, from 15 to 18 July. It will mark the 150th anniversary of the playing of the first Open in 1860 at Prestwick.

On 17 October 1860, a mere eight players competed over three rounds of 12 holes against a bogey of 144. From that humble beginning The Open has grown to be recognised throughout the world as the most venerable of the four Majors.

Moray Art Centre Feb 27 to April 3 2010 Findhorn Mary Bourne is a visual artist based near Dufftown in rural North East of Scotland.

Working principally in natural stone she uses a variety of techniques (carving, sandblasting, heat and polishing) to explore mankind’s emotional, intellectual and physical relationships with the world we live in.

Followed by a short live auction, which will include a stay at Drumlanrig Castle, one of the homes of the Duke of Buccleuch.

All proceeds will benefit The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA and its efforts to support the work of the National Trust for Scotland. The USA Foundation’s goal is to increase the recognition of the National Trust for Scotland within the United States and to help raise funds to support specific projects and the general operations of the Trust.

www.rnli.org.uk Laser World Championships July 7 – 14 2010 Ayrshire The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has confirmed that Largs Sailing Club in Ayrshire, sportscotland’s championship sailing venue and home of the Scottish Sailing Institute, will welcome two out of four sailing regattas comprising the Laser World Championships: the Laser Radial Women’s World Championships from 7-14 July 2010 and the Laser Radial Men’s and Youth Worlds from 18-25 July 2010.
