In brief...

West Dunbartonshire’s high streets will benefit from almost £2.5 million of investment from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Regeneration fund. Dumbarton and Clydebank will receive the well-deserved cash boost before April 2010 and it is estimated that the investment is likely to create up to 80 new local jobs .

Housing and communities minister Alex Neil announced that West Dunbartonshire Council’s bid to secure funding for projects in Clydebank and Dumbarton Town Centres was successful.

The town centres are two of the 41 Scottish towns that will benefit from a £20 million share of government cash, the second round of funding awarded from the £60 million fund, to revitalise their high streets and transform their fortunes.

Councillor Jim McElhill, West Dunbartonshire Council’s spokesperson for housing, environmental services and economic development, said: "I am absolutely delighted to hear about the successful bids for funding for Clydebank and Dumbarton town centres.

“This is a fantastic investment in West Dunbartonshire by the Scottish Government and a big vote of confidence in the area’s potential.” Teams of students from three Scottish schools have triumphed in the Scottish final of the 2009 F1 in Schools Formula One Technology Challenge held at the Glasgow Science Centre.

A team of students from Fife Young Engineers, ‘Exceleration’, took overall victory in the Formula 1 class and a sister team from Fife Young Engineers, ‘Team Electro’ won the Bloodhound SSC class.

The team named ‘Blink and You’ll Miss Us’ from Harris Academy won the Best Rookie class and with these wins all three teams have booked their places at the UK National finals of this global competition.

The UK National Finals will be held at Autosport International Show in January next year.
