Under the hammer

A rare watercolour sketchbook containing stunning paintings of Scottish landscapes and landmarks will be going on sale in London this February.

The work of Sarah Sherwood Clarke, a skilled English artist who fell in love with the highlands and lowlands of Scotland, the sketchbook contains 48 watercolours including views of Loch Ness, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, Rosslyn Chapel, Ben Nevis, Oban and Loch Lomond.

Sarah Sherwood Clarke’s 1854 sketchbook will be exhibited by Aberdeenshire Art Dealers, Campbell Wilson, at the Watercolours & Works on Paper Art Fair (3 – 7 February, Science Museum, London SW7).
