The Braemar Gathering 5th Sept 2009, Braemar Possibly the most popular of all the Highland Games in the world, and the only one which guarantees the presence of a member of the Royal Family. Track events and displays, pipers and dancers. Stena Line Wigtown Book Festival 25th Sept-4th October 2009 Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway Known as Scotland’s national book town, Wigtown hosts this annual festival featuring more than 250,000 books and some of the country’s most renowned writers.

The Whisky & Words festival will be a major strand of this year’s event – effectively a festival-within-a-festival. It will kick off with a big Burns Supper on Weds 30th Sept and will run until the night of Saturday 3rd Oct. It’s all part of Scotland’s national Homecoming 2009 celebrations which celebrate the 250th anniversary of Burns’s birth. Animated Adventures 1st June-11th October 2009, Dundee Anew exhibition at Sensation Dundee will bring to life the magic of animation. The exhibition will feature lovable duo Wallace and Gromit, containing seven original sets used in the making of Aardman and DreamWorks’ feature film Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Visitors can find out how the world’s top animators create their on-screen characters and discover the art of cel painting, stop frame, CGI technology and plasticine modelling. Dundee Flower and Food Festival 4th-6th Sept 2009, Dundee The premier event of its kind in Scotland, brings to you a taste of the best in food, horticulture and Scottish entertainment over three days. Merchant City Festival 24th-27th September 2009, Glasgow Glasgow’s old commercial quarter celebrates with an arts festival that includes music, theatre, film and comedy. Highland Feast Every weekend in September 2009, Venues across the Highlands Amasterclass in culinary events from Aviemore to Inverness and Nairn to Sutherland. Celebrate food and drink with celebrity chefs in hotels, castles and even distilleries. Cowalfest 9th-18th Oct 2009 Cowal Arts Festival and also the largest walking festival in Scotland. Cultural events, arts & walking to celebrate the natural world, mountains, lochs and woodland. The Royal National Mod 9th-17th October 2009, Oban In 2009 the Royal National MOD, Scotland’s premier celebration of its Gaelic language, music and culture is going home to Oban, its birthplace.

Relax with a ceilidh, concert, exhibition and a showcase of all things Gaelic. The Enchanted Forest 16th Oct-1st November 2009, Pitlochry Choreographic creation of dramatic light and sound performances. A night time spectacular set in Perthshire’s Big Tree Country. Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival 16th-18th Oct 2009, Edinburgh Focus is on adventure activities, promoted through films, lectures and exhibitions. A chance for would-be film directors to showcase their work. Glenfiddich Piping And Fiddling Championship 31st October & 1st November 2009, Blair Atholl The annual showcase of the very best solo pipers and fiddlers, this weekend event, in the grand setting of the Blair Castle ballroom, is a major date on Scotland's traditional music calendar.
