Rob Allanson checks in to East Haugh House in Perthshire
If outdoor Scotland whispers to you as you sit in the office surrounded by concrete and cars, then it is time for a break.
For those who dream of stalking a big stag or hooking the fish of a lifetime while cocooned in some of the best scenery that Scotland has to offer, then East Haugh House provides a perfect destination.
This rather romantic, turreted stone-built house sits in two acres of grounds, surrounded by tall trees, and is just a couple of miles south of Pitlochry, in Perthshire.
Five minutes off the main A9 route north, it is simple to find.
Nestling into the countryside, this country house hotel has 13 individually designed bedrooms, two with four poster beds, two with open fires and five with en suite jacuzzis.
With 15 years experience, and scooping the Scottish Country Sports Hotel of the Year in 2005, owners Neil and Lesley McGown can arrange more activities for guests, including fishing, hunting, shooting and golf, than you can shake a walking stick at. Craig Somerville, who is head chef, will happily cook what you catch.
While we are on the subject of food, East Haugh undoubtedly has an edge over many of its competitors.
The Two Sisters Restaurant is fast becoming the dining hot spot in the area, offering fine food with local produce.
