Salvador Dali's legendary painting Christ of St John of The Cross will return to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum when the building reopens in Summer 2006.
The Dali original was bought for Kelvingrove in 1953, just two years after it was painted, but moved to St Mungo's Museum of Religious Art in 1993.
The original cost of the painting was £8,200, which was considered a large amount of money. However the sale included copyright and the reproduction fees from print and postcard sales since have justified the fee many times over.
Christ of St John of The Cross is now worth tens of millions of pounds, but the prestige this painting brings to the Kelvingrove art collection and to Glasgow is invaluable. ...
